The congregation at Princeton collects canned food, empty egg cartons, paper grocery bags, and dollars to be given to the local food bank. These items are taken to the food bank once each month. Also during the three weeks leading up to the Super Bowl, the Sunday School classes compete in what is called a "Souper Bowl". Trophies are presented to the children's and the adult class that bring the largest number of canned goods to be sent to the food bank. If folks have not had time to shop, they can give money, with each dollar counting as 2 cans. The money is given to Our Daily Bread. During 2010 Princeton UMC has supported the Food Bank with nearly 2000 items of food, $105 and about 60 hours of labor. We have budgeted and/or designated donations to purchase food items for needy families in the Athens area in 2010 and 2011.
