Train yourself for a holy life! While physical training has some value, training in holy living
is useful for everything. It has promise for this life now and the life to come.

                                                            (1 Timothy 4:7b-8, CEB)

Our physical muscles need to be trained for us to be strong and fit. Likewise, so do our spiritual muscles. If you were at a gym you would use some equipment designed for the purpose of your workout – weights, stair-master, treadmill. To develop spiritual fitness, we need to train with equipment that is designed to strengthen us. The Bible is one of the main tools we have for becoming spiritually fit.

Every new year thousands of people make a resolution to “read the Bible more.” Perhaps you have made such a declaration. Well, guess what? You can read the Bible more with the 5x5x5 Bible Reading Plan.

5 minutes a day – it takes an average of 5 minutes a day
to read  a chapter in the Bible.

                            5 days a week – by reading one chapter a day Monday-Friday,
we will make it through the entire New Testament in a year.

5 ways to dig deeper – underline or highlight, put verses
into your own words, explore questions and answers, capture
the big idea, and personalize the meaning.

The 5x5x5 Bible reading plan can be found online at YouVersion.com. As part of our Winter worship series, Cross fit we encourage you to go to the site prior to January 13 and create an account. It is a one step process and absolutely free! You can also download the app for your smartphone or tablet. For those who do not have Internet access there will be printed copies of the 5x5x5 reading plan available.

On January 13, log-in to your YouVersion account, search for “Discipleship Journal 5x5x5 Reading Plan” and select “Start this Plan”. By the time we work our way to the worship topic of “Spiritual Fitness” you will already be getting your spirit in shape by reading God’s Word.  This is one of the opportunities to help you become Cross Fit. We hope you can join us. Invite a friend and get fit together.

Prayer: Holy God, thank you for the many ways you provide for us to become more spiritually fit for the life you call us to. Help me to live the way I should in all areas of my life. In the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

In His Word,
Reverend Dee Dee
